Moviewatch: March 2010

Quotation Quiz:

"It's oaky... Oh, yeah, and smoky. I detect... bacon fat... laced with honey melon."
From which film does that interesting description come? The answer is at the bottom of the page.
This month's featured release:
Only a couple of films to mention coming out in April. On the 16th there’s "Nerverackers". It’s a futuristic sci-fi thriller that will take place in the year 2085, when society has become a blissful utopia. That is, until something, or someone, embarks on a crime wave, prompting the authorities to assemble a special unit, led by a guy named Joe Tezca, to fight back.
And the following week there’s "Centurion" . Under orders to wipe out the Picts and their leader, Gorlacon, Quintus journeys north with the legendary Ninth Legion and their leader, General Virilus. Cue much battling mayhem. Stars Michael Fassbender, Olga Kurylenko, Dominic West, Noel Clarke and David Morrissey.
Forthcoming attractions:
It looks like "The Three Musketeers", are going to make a comeback. Sherlock Holmes producer Lionel Wigram is the man leading the way for an updated take on Alexander Dumas’ classic, having hired writer Peter Straughan to take a crack at the tale.
Pierce Brosnan, Ed Harris and comic actor Jim Gaffigan have all signed onto "Salvation Boulevard", a new comedic thriller about the US-style mega churches, based on "Wag The Dog" novelist Larry Beinhart’s book. The film finds a former Grateful Dead fan who converted to Christianity, on the run from the fundamentalist members of his new church who are trying to protect the reputation of their charismatic preacher. It plans to start shooting in April.

Kevin Costner has found his next directing/starring job. He’ll take on the role of a sheriff who must stop a town from succumbing to violence during World War Two in "A Little War Of Our Own". The film, written by Dan Gordon, will explore the large concepts of the war through the townspeople. Costner, wearing his director’s hat, is now tracking down actors to fill out the rest of the cast, and he wants to be ready to start shooting later this year.
Robbins has joined the cast of "Green Lantern" in the role of Senator Hammond, whose disapproving parental style is one of the reasons that Dr Hector Hammond (Peter Sarsgaard) ends up turning evil. The other reason, of course, is that Hammond Jr becomes infused with psychic powers from a strange meteorite and goes a bit strange. Alongside Robbins there’s Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively. They’ll be reporting to the set in March to start shooting.
Rachel Weisz has agreed to star in Universal’s new thriller "Dream House", which already boasts Daniel Craig and Naomi Watts among its cast. Jim Sheridan is directing the film, which sees a publisher (Craig) deciding to quit the rat race in New York and relocate his wife (Weisz) and family to a charming New England town, only to discover all is not quite what it seems with the beautiful house they end up buying. This being a thriller, they soon learn that a mother and her two children were horribly murdered in the place.
Steven Soderbergh has announced that "The Informant!" star Matt Damon will be joining him again for his latest venture, the action–thriller "Contagion". Jude Law is also set to appear, and Kate Winslet and Marion Cotillard, are in talks to join the star–studded cast as well. Written by "The Informant!" scribe Scott Z. Burns, the plot revolves around the threat posed by a deadly disease, with multiple plotlines – similar to the style of Soderbergh‘s "Traffic".
And the quote came from Dennis Farina as Maurice in "Bottle Shock".
Until next time...
