This is the true story of record producer Joe Meek, creator of a string of number 1 hits in the early 60s including ‘Telstar’, the biggest selling record of its time and the first British single ever to top the US charts. Despite his musical illiteracy, Meek went on to create the recordings that earned him iconic status in the world of British pop until depression, heartbreak and paranoia ultimately led to his downfall.

And two released at the beginning of July. Firstly there’s ‘Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs’.

With the voices of Simon Pegg, Seann William Scott, John Leguizamo, and Denis Leary.
And then there’s ‘Public Enemeies’. In this action-thriller, Michael Mann directs Johnny Depp, Christian Bale, and Marion Cotillard in the true story of legendary Depression-era bank robber John Dillinger (Depp). His lightning raids made him the number one target of J. Edgar Hoover's fledgling FBI and its top agent, Melvin Purvis (Bale), as well as a folk hero to much of the downtrodden public.
His charm and jailbreaks endeared him to almost everyone, from his girlfriend Billie Frechette (Cotillard), to an American public who had no sympathy for the banks that had plunged the country into the Depression. But while the adventures of Dillinger's gang, which later included Baby Face Nelson (Stephen Graham) thrilled many, Hoover (Billy Crudup) hit on the idea of exploiting the outlaw's capture as a way to elevate his Bureau of Investigation into the national police force that became the FBI.
He made Dillinger America's first Public Enemy Number One and sent in Purvis to capture him. At first, Dillinger and his gang outwitted and outgunned Purvis' men in wild chases and shootouts but only after importing a crew of Western ex-lawmen, who were real gunfighters, and orchestrating epic betrayals, were Purvis and the FBI able to close in on Dillinger.
Moviewatch grapevine:
With the world in economic meltdown, Oliver Stone appears to have been signed by 20th Century Fox to direct the sequel to his 1987 hit ‘Wall Street‘. Shia LaBeouf is in negotiations to join Michael Douglas, whose portrayal of ruthless stockbroker Gordon Gekko won him an Oscar in the original film.
The sequel will once again involve a young Wall Street trader, and the current global recession spurred by rampant greed and corruption will feature prominently.
Another film that is using the current economic climate as it’s basis is "The Company Men", which continues to take shape as, Maria Bello and Craig T. Nelson have now joined the film‘s cast. The drama, starring Kevin Costner, Tommy Lee Jones and Ben Affleck, revolves around the impact that corporate downsizing has on both its casualties and survivors.
Affleck plays a corporate hotshot whose Porsche and six–figure salary vanish after he gets laid off. Costner plays his brother–in–law, a down–to–earth dry wall installer who gives him a construction job. Jones plays a senior partner in the firm, a principled man who struggles with the greedy actions of his partners.
Bello will play the vice president of human resources, who is forced to fire Affleck‘s character and Nelson plays the CEO of the global conglomerate.
Danny Huston, who is currently playing Col. Stryker in ‘X–Men Origins: Wolverine‘, has been cast as Poseidon in Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures‘ remake of 'Clash of the Titans'. He joins an already impressive cast that includes Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Mads Mikkelsen, Jason Flemyng, Alexa Davalos and Izabella Miko.
Chris Noth will reprise his role as Mr. Big in "Sex and the City 2", while Evan Handler and David Eigenger are returning as well. The trio join foursome Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon in the sequel, to be directed by Michael Patrick King. The film starts shooting in early September for a May 2010 release.
Universal–based Illumination Entertainment are to create a feature based on Ricky Gervais’ children’s book series "Flanimals". The four–volume series encompasses a world inhabited by 50 species of creatures so ugly and misshapen they become cute and endearing. Gervais is set to voice the lead character, a pudgy, perspiring purple creature, who goes on a mission to change the world.
Amanda Peet has joined the cast of ‘Gulliver‘s Travels‘. The classic Jonathan Swift tale, which sees travel writer Lemuel Gulliver wash up on the island of Lilliput – home to a population of tiny people. The film has already signed up Jack Black, Jason Segel and Emily Blunt, with Monsters Vs Aliens co–director Rob Letterman set to helm.
Denzel Washington, is negotiating to play the lead role in the Tony Scott–directed drama ‘Unstoppable‘, which 20th Century Fox is hoping to start filming later this year. If successful, Washington would play an experienced engineer who jumps into a locomotive with a conductor to chase down a runaway train carrying a cargo of toxic chemicals.
The film would reunite Washington and Scott for their fifth movie together. They‘ve previously worked together on "Crimson Tide", "Man on Fire", "Deja vu" and the upcoming "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3".
