Forthcoming attractions: The Boat that Rocked
Released on April 1st there’s ":The Boat that Rocked".
It’s a period comedy about an illegal radio station in the North
Sea in the 1960's. Rhys Ifans, Nick Frost, Bill Nighy, and Philip
Seymour Hoffman star, while Richard Curtis directed.
Out
the following week, April 10th, Dwayne Johnson and Annasophia
Robb star in "Race to Witch Mountain". In this film
a brother and sister who possess paranormal powers try to avoid
being captured by a group of men who want to exploit them.
"17
Again" appears at the cinema on April 17th and stars Matthew
Perry and Zac Efron. As you can guess from the title, a wish
is granted when a guy wakes up 17 again, getting the chance
to restart his life.
"Whiteout", based on the
graphic novel, is released on April 24th. It stars Kate Beckinsale
as U.S. Marshal Carrie Stetko pursuing a killer across the treacherous
terrain of Antarctica.
And it actually comes out at the
beginning of May but there‘s also, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".
Wolverine lives a mutant life, he seeks revenge against Victor
Creed (who will later become Sabertooth) for the death of his
girlfriend, and ultimately ends up going through the mutant
Weapon X program. Hugh Jackman, Brian Cox, Kodi Smit-McPhee,
Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Kitsch, Liev Schreiber and Lynn Collins
star.
Moviewatch grapevine
Amanda Seyfried, who appeared in "Mamma Mia" is to star in
in "A Woman of No Importance". She will play the love interest
to the womanizing Lord Illingworth played by Sean Bean, at a
posh party at the family's pile in the English countryside -
until his mother, played by Annette Bening reveals a secret,
which threatens to scupper his plans. Bruce Beresford will direct,
and Oscar Wilde’s words have been adapted by Howard Himelstein.
Liev Schrieber, who also starred in "Defiance", is
also set to star alongside Angelina Jolie in "Salt"
– a new spy thriller to be directed by Phillip Noyce. He will
play the chief intelligence officer of the Russian desk at the
CIA and Jolie‘s boss who is forced to make some pretty hard
decisions when his charge goes missing. Evelyn Salt is a CIA
operative fingered as a Russian sleeper spy out to assassinate
the President. Cue some Bourne–like antics as Jolie runs about
whilst trying to find the real culprit. Rounding out the cast
is the excellent Chiwetel Ejiofor making this a production to
keep an eye on. Recent Oscar nominee Melissa Leo has
signed up for "Betty Ann Waters" which has Hilary
Swank playing the title role. The film centres on an unemployed
single mother who is convinced that her brother, who's locked
up for murder and robbery, is innocent. So she studies law and
challenges the conviction with DNA evidence, ultimately leading
to his release 18 years after he was first imprisoned. The drama,
also stars Minnie Driver and Sam Rockwell. Michel Gondry
looks to be the person taken on to helm "The Green Hornet",
with the film pencilled in for a June 2010 release date in the
US. Seth Rogen who starred in ‘Knocked Up’ will play the title
role, with Stephen Chow as his sidekick, Kato. Scripted by Seth
Rogen and Evan Goldberg, "The Green Hornet" was originally
a radio show in the 1930s, followed by a TV series in the 1960s.
And finally, Warner Bros have hired director Eric Brevig, he
directed "Journey To The Center Of The Earth", to
helm a family film based on the classic cartoon character, Yogi
Bear. "Yogi" will see the Hanna–Barbera inspired bear
get into a series of misadventures with his best mate, Boo Boo,
in Jellystone Park. The film will combine live action and CGI,
similar to "Alvin And The Chipmunks".
