“We elves try to stick to the four main food groups: candy, candy canes, candy corns and syrup.”

From which film does that take on stress come? The answer is at the bottom of the page.

Our feature presentation: The Spirit

One of the first films to be released in the new year is “The Spirit”. Rookie cop Denny Colt (Gabriel Macht) is killed in the line of duty but he soon returns from the grave as The Spirit, a hero whose personal mission is to fight against Central City's forces of evil and the implacable crime kingpin known as The Octopus (Samuel L Jackson). Also stars Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes, Jaime King and Paz Vega.

Forthcoming attractions: Push and The Soloist

Films being released on 6th February include “Push” and “The Soloist”.

The former has a concept that might be described as X-Men with psychics, as the film revolves around people with an array of incredible powers. Movers are telekinetic, able to move things with their will alone. Watchers see images of the future while Pushers are able to bend you to their will and place thoughts and impulses into your mind. The cast includes Chris Evans, Dakota Fanning, Camilla Belle, Djimon Hounsou, Maggie Siff and Scott Michael Campbell.

While the latter film, “The Soloist” is a true-life tale about the homeless musical prodigy Nathaniel Ayers and his friendship with Los Angeles Times reporter Steve Lopez. Stars Robert Downey Jr., Catherine Keener, Jamie Foxx and Stephen Root.

The following week, there is the release of ‘Pink Panther 2’. Insp. Jacques Clouseau teams up with a squad of International detectives who are just as bumbling as he is. Their mission - stop a globe-trotting thief who specializes in stealing historical artifacts. Stars Andy Garcia, John Cleese, Alfred Molina, Aishwarya Rai and Steve Martin.

Baz Luhrmann, who directed “Strictly Ballroom”, “Moulin Rouge” and most recently “Australia”, is set to tackle F Scott Fitzgerald‘s “The Great Gatsby”. The film follows the life and loves of a playboy in the roaring 20s, just prior to the Great Depression.

Christopher McQuarrie, the man behind Tom Cruise‘s latest film “Valkyrie”, is hoping to team up with the star for a further three projects. McQuarrie, who co–wrote and produced the Nazi thriller, has a number of projects on the go, and is slanting them with a view to getting Tom Cruise to sign on.
First up is another World War II film with New Regency entitled “Flying Tigers”, which follows a volunteer US squadron who helped the Chinese repel the Japanese, before the US entered the war. Other projects include a film with Guillermo del Toro, called “The Champions” which is based on the hit British television series about government agents developing superhuman abilities, and “The Tourist”, which is an espionage thriller and remake of French film “Anthony Zimmer”.

Maggie Q, who appeared in “Die Hard 4.0” and “Miami Vice” is to take on the lead role in computer game adaptation ‘King of Fighters‘. Gordon Chan is in the director‘s chair, and the film will also feature Ray Park and David Leitch. The $12 million production will wrap in mid–January, with the movie scheduled to hit our screens in the early part of 2010.

Anna Friel is set to make a rom com entitled “The Wedding”. The film will look at the trials and tribulations of young love. Jesse Eisenberg will play a young guy who interrupts the wedding of a girl he is infatuated with – namely Friel.

And finally, casting has already begun for the sequel to the ‘80s futuristic classic “Tron”. Olivia Wilde has signed on as the female lead in "TR2N", and will team up with Beau Garrett. Directed by Joseph Kosinski, who is also helming the remake of ‘70s classic Logan‘s Run, “TR2N” is scheduled for release some time in 2011, courtesy of Disney. The story will see Wilde working as a drone in the virtual world who desperately tries to prevent Master Control Program from once again trying to take over the world, while Jeff Bridges is set to reprise his original role as hacker Kevin Flynn/Clu.
