Our feature presentation: The International

Released on 27th February there’s "The International". When a fellow agent is murdered, Euro-cop Louis Salinger (Clive Owen) and New York assistant district attorney Eleanor Whitman (Naomi Watts) join forces to entrap one of the world’s largest banks. Crossing the globe, they learn the full extent of its corruption, where it will stop at nothing to continue financing its projects.
Also out that day is "Hamlet 2". Dana Marschz (Steve Coogan) is a failed actor-turned-high school drama teacher. When his department threatens to become a victim of budget cuts he creates a musical sequel to Hamlet that soon has the community and the school board on his back…Also stars Catherine Keener and David Arquette.

Forthcoming attractions:

"Marley and Me" is released on 13th March and stars Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston. Unsure of his preparedness for raising children, John (Wilson) confesses his fears to his friend who comes up with the perfect solution: John should get Jenny (Aniston) a puppy. “There’s nothing to it. You walk ‘em. You feed ‘em, you let ‘em out now and then.” Then came Marley.
And "The Box" is released on 20th March. A small wooden box appears on the doorstep of a married couple. They open it and find instant wealth, but little do they realise that every time they open it someone dies as a result. Stars James Marsden, Cameron Diaz, Frank Langella, James Rebhorn.

Moviewatch grapevine

Amanda Seyfried, who appeared in "Mamma Mia" is to star in in "A Woman of No Importance". She will play the love interest to the womanizing Lord Illingworth played by Sean Bean, at a posh party at the family's pile in the English countryside - until his mother, played by Annette Bening reveals a secret, which threatens to scupper his plans. Bruce Beresford will direct, and Oscar Wilde’s words have been adapted by Howard Himelstein.

Jennifer Beals has signed up for "The Book of Eli" also starring Denzel Washington with whom she appeared in 1995’s "Devil in a Blue Dress". It’s a sci-fi actioner with Washington as the titular Eli, a lone hero charged with protecting a sacred tome and securing the fate of all of mankind. Beals will play the blind mother of Milan Kunis' Sonara, fighting to protect her daughter from the unwelcome advances of Gary Oldman's small-town despot. Shooting starts in New Mexico next month, with a US release date scheduled for 15 January 2010.

Minnie Driver will join Hilary Swank for the legal drama "Betty Anne Waters". It’s based on the life of a single mother who spent a decade training to become a lawyer in order to free her imprisoned brother. Driver, will step into the role of Abra, an ex wild-child and law school friend of Betty Anne who helped challenge her brother's life sentence with DNA evidence. Actor-turned-director Tony Goldwyn will direct the movie and it begins shooting in February.

And finally, Keira Knightley and Colin Farrell have signed up for "London Boulevard". It’s the directorial debut from screenwriter William Monahan. He's the man behind "Kingdom of Heaven", "The Departed" and "Body of Lies". The story sees a South London criminal called Mitchell (Farrell) released from prison after serving three years for an assault he doesn't remember committing. He gets set up as a live-in handyman to a young actress, but after tangling with a loan shark finds that he's annoying half the people he meets and the rest are turning up dead. It's based on the book by Ken Bruen, with Monahan adapting the script. The film will shoot this summer in London, after Farrell finishes work on "The Way Back" and Knightley makes "Last Night" and "The Beautiful And Damned".
