Released on Friday 14th March there’s 10,000 B.C. Roland Emmerich, the director of The Day after Tomorrow and Godzilla, is back with another action-adventure, this time set in a prehistoric age, where a mammoth-hunter has to travel through uncharted territory to save his tribe from extinction.
Also out that week is 27 Dresses. Knocked Up's Katherine Heigl stars as a woman who's been a bridesmaid 27 times, but never a bride. Will she make it 28 as her sister prepares to marry the man she's secretly in love with?
Out the following week, Friday 21st March, we have Horton Hears A Who and The Spiderwick Chronicles. The former stars Jim Carey and Steve Carell in this animated family film about an elephant who decides to defend the microscopic community of Who-ville against the evil Sour Kangaroo. It’s based on the 1954 book by Dr. Seuss.
While the latter has twins Jared and Simon and their sister Mallory moving into run-down Spiderwick Estate with their mother, and they encounter a magical world of faeries and fantastic creatures.
And watch out for Leatherheads on the Friday 4th April. George Clooney and Renee Zellweger come together for this romantic comedy set in the world of 1920s pro-American football.
Forthcoming attractions:
Toy Story is getting the 3-D treatment. The people at Disney will convert the 1995 animated classic to the new format with a view to release in late 2009. The sequel will also get a 3-D makeover and be re-released in 2010. Pixar’s John Lasseter, who directed both films, will be overseeing the process.
Moviewatch grapevine
Billy Bob Thornton and Tom Wilkinson will join Julia Roberts and Clive Owen in Duplicity. They'll play the CEOs of rival pharmaceutical companies who are racing to corner the market on a medical innovation that will guarantee huge profits. Roberts and Owen are at the centre of the story as ex-lovers and corporate spies for the rival firms.
Zac Efron, star of High School Musical, will appear in Me And Orson Welles. Richard Linklater is directing the story based on the period coming-of-age novel by Robert Kaplow. It's set in 1937 when a high school student bumps into Orson Welles on the streets of New York, lands a part in his Julius Caesar and learns lessons about life and love.
Martin Scorsese is re-teaming with Harvey Keitel for Chaos. It's another New York story, which Scorsese is executively producing, about two lonely people whose lives coincidentally intersect. The script was penned by indie filmmaker Daphna Kastner and she'll also direct in June.
Forrest Whittaker, is eyeing the lead role in Tim Story's basketball movie Patriots. The twist with this one is that coach Al Collins led his school team to victory just a year after his community was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina.
